General Management
“Checking the results of a decision against
its expectations shows executives what their strengths are, where
they need to improve, and where they lack knowledge or information.”
Peter Drucker
Creating and maintaining ideal organizations
are the two major goals of management. Selecting the proper balance
between Management and Leadership is critical in balancing the
traditional functions and dimensions of management with the
necessary spearheading of CEO Leadership.
The four dimensions of Management include:
Organization Design. Establishes its
structure, provides a framework for its activities and delineates
lines of authority and responsibility.
Behavioral Processes. Motivation,
leadership, group behavior and communication are the interactions
between and among members that enable the organization to move
towards its goals.
Planning and Control. Plans specify
goals and the means to reach them. Control systems monitor the
organizations implementation of its plans and pinpoints significant
deviations.
Decision Making. Involves recognizing a
gap between what is and what should be. Identify the problem,
generate potential solutions, choose alternatives and implement the
solution.
An ideal organization is seen as one that
operates with maximum efficiency, profitability and
employee/customer satisfaction.
“Nothing is more important to achieving
results than the CEO’s personal leadership in the three core
processes of;
The People Process
The Strategy Process
The Operations Process”
Larry Bossidy & Ram Charan, Execution
